While She was sleeping...

First of all Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!

    On this happy and warm Turkey Day, my daughter became in desperate need of nap.  She played hard with her cousins, ate bananas, did some fish watching and pointed at alot of random things.  Needless, to say she was exhausted and that left me with some time to kill in my hotel room.  So, what did I do?  You guessed it crafting.  I realized as I went to make the lovely photo frame I promised in my previos post that I left my modge podge on my craftinb shelf at home. :( So, I had to come up with a different craft.  Therefore, we are going to do fabric flowers!!! 

  

     This is a super easy craft that you could use for a variety of items like decoration or bows. So, here is what you need to do this fun and easy craft.

  (1) Piece of fabric that is at least 12" long and at 6" wide.

  (1) Pair of Scissors

  (1) Hot Glue Gun

  (1) Sewing Thread

  (1) Standard Needle

  (1) Marking Utensil

  (1) Template (I am using the top of the cup for a template.)

Okay, so first step.  Flip your fabric over to the white side and begin tracing your template 6 times.

 After getting all 6 traced, cut out the 6 circles.

Take one of your circles and fold it in half and then into a quarter.

 

Now, thread your needle and insert into the corner of the rounded edge of the fabric.  Make sure you go through every layer of the fabric.  Now, take the fabric and weave it back and forth across the top edge of the fabric with the needle.
 


After you have pulled the fabric completely through the thread pull it to your knot.  Repeat this process with all the rest of the petals.  Make sure you pull the fabric tight to the knot and then each fabric tight to each other.  When you have gone through all the fabric petals tie it off and knot it.

Then, cut a small circle of fabric to cover the whole in the center of the flower and hot glue it to your flower. (This step is optional.  I do this, so when I secure the center of the flower of the flower there is more to hold it together.)


Now, it is time to make the center.  Cut a strip about a 1/4"-1/2" wide and 12" long.  At one end of the strip tie a knot.  (The tighter the knot the small the center section will be.)  If, you have any excess on the end that you tied the knot trim it off.  Now, twist the strip to make the strip of fabric into a round thread and hot glue it around the knot.  It should form a circle. 

Now, twist the fabric into a thread and hot glue it to the knot.  It should form a circle.  Continue to twist the fabric and gluing it to the circle.  Do this all the way to the end of the fabric.

Glue the finished center to the center of the flower. And there you have it!

Crafting on Vacation!

 Today my daughter, mother-in-law, father-in-law and I went to the beach.  This is the first time my 9 month old daughter has seen one of God's most beautiful creations.  There are not many things in life that can compare to showing a child something so beautiful for the first time.  At first she could just not comprehend what she was seeing, but very quickly her confusion turned into the bright smile I know and love.  As we waded through the soft sand of the beach my mother-in-law actually suggested a craft for me to do for my little angel.  She suggested I make a photo frame made up of sea shells we found on Her first excursion at the beach.  I loved this idea and so we began collecting seashells.  We found several that I hope will work.  Hopefully, we will be able to get it done before the hussle and bussle of the holiday season.

  Hello All,
   This is my first post to an all new blog.  The idea behind this blog is to learn how to craft.  I really love to work with my hands but lets be honest, I am not the most crafty person you will meet.  I am not the perfection who can make something spectacular from almost nothing. I am not patient or have the desire to re-do a project a million times to get it right (my limit is usually three times.)  What I am is a person who needs a creative outlet.  So, the point of this blog will be to progressively become better at crafting.  I want you my readers to share in my triumphs and my (probably many) failures.  As I learn to see the world through eyes of a crafter.  I want feedback, suggestions and encouragement!  I want pictures of your version of these crafts (as long as you don't show me up :0P) Thank you guys for taking the time to read this and I look forward to a long blogship together!
